VoteWater endorses Omar Jimenez for Miami Beach Commission Group 1

VoteWater, a South Florida clean-water advocacy group, has endorsed Omar Jimenez for Miami Beach Commission Group 1.

“Omar Jimenez puts clean water at the top of his agenda because he’s seen first-hand the effect dirty water can have on his community and its quality of life,” said VoteWater Executive Director Gil Smart.

Jimenez, a resident of Park View Island, founded the Park View Island Sustainable Association after a major sewer main break spewed 1.6 million gallons of raw sewage into the Park View Island Canal and Biscayne Bay. Today, five years later, the area remains under a “No Contact With Water Advisory.” The incident inspired Jimenez to run for office.

“Clean water is the foundation of life in Miami Beach — it defines our economy, our health, and our identity as a world renowned coastal community,” said Jimenez.

“For me, this issue is deeply personal. I’ve spent years working to uncover and expose the sources of canal contamination, push for infrastructure upgrades, and bring residents, scientists, and city leaders together to restore our waterways.”

“As City Commissioner, I will continue leading with science, accountability, and community collaboration,” said Jimenez. “I’ll advocate for transparent water-quality testing, stronger enforcement against pollution sources, and prioritize the repair of failing sewer and stormwater systems.

“My commitment is simple: to ensure that every drop of water flowing through Miami Beach is clean, safe, and worthy of the paradise we call home,” he said.

Headquartered in Stuart, VoteWater is a 501(c)(4) organization which works to empower Floridians to demand clean water and political accountability.
