VoteWater, a South Florida clean-water advocacy group, has endorsed Gloria Romero Roses in the Florida House District 113 race.

“Gloria is keenly aware of the connection between clean water and a vibrant economy,” said Gil Smart, VoteWater Executive Director. “And she knows the importance of sound government policy in protecting our natural resources and shaping Florida’s future.”

Romero Roses, a small business owner with a background in assisted living and real estate, is a resident of Brickell Key and has been involved with numerous community organizations.

“Living in District 113 we are surrounded by paradise with beautiful ecosystems like Biscayne Bay, the Everglades and the old tree hammocks found at Alice Wainright and Simpson parks. But all is not well in paradise; drought threatens our water supply with saltwater intrusion. The fish kills of 2020 and 2023 are still fresh in our minds.”

She believes Miami is at a crossroads: “The policies we set today on what and where we build shapes whether we will have clean water when we open the tap or swim in the bay,” she said.

“Policy is not abstract; it affects real lives and tests our values every day.”

Romero Roses has made affordable housing a focus of her campaign, and has criticized the Legislature’s attempts to infringe upon home rule. She has backed reforms to Florida’s controversial “Live Local Act,” and supports nature-based resilience efforts.

She also supports efforts to crack down on polluters. “Today we fail to enforce laws that undermine our water supply, and even when we do, the measures are so pathetic that we fail to hold polluters accountable. This means we end up passing the costs for clean-up on to the taxpayer. It’s wasteful, and Floridians deserve better,” she said.

“Gloria knows that clean water is crucial to Miami,” said VoteWater’s Smart. “And we’re confident she’ll do all she can to protect paradise.”

Headquartered in Stuart, VoteWater is a 501(c)(4) organization which works to inspire Floridians to demand leaders and policies that promote clean water. VoteWater’s sole criteria in issuing endorsements is a candidate’s position on water-related issues.
